Introducing our new Devizes Guardians Councillors
We are pleased to have three Devizes Guardians on the new unitary Wiltshire Council. Nigel Carter, Jeff Ody and Jane Burton will work for Devizes and Roundway on the new council for the next four years. A heartfelt thanks to all our supporters.There are seven new Councillors with voting rights on the new Devizes Community Area Board: four of them for Devizes and Roundway. By electing three of our four Guardians’ candidates, Devizes and Roundway have a powerful voice on the new unitary Wiltshire Council.
Your Devizes Guardians Councillors:
Devizes East: Born in Devizes, educated at Southbroom School and Devizes Grammar School, JANE BURTON worked for Boots as a Dispensing Technician for 25 years, apart from a period of 8 years when she worked for John Rugg at Terrys the Chemist when her children were small. She has been married to Richard, a self-employed electrician, for 38 years. Her daughter and son both live and work in Devizes, and she has two grandsons who are at local schools. She was elected to the Town Council in 2003, and re-elected in 2007, topping the poll on both occasions. In 2007 - 2008 she was made Deputy Mayor of the town, which led to being made Mayor for 2008 – 2009. She has thoroughly enjoyed her Mayoral term.
Devizes North: NIGEL CARTER works as an environmental consultant. This follows previous careers in British Petroleum and the Royal Navy. He is a former member of Kennet District Council and takes a keen interest in economic development, waste management and education, participating regularly in consultations at county and regional level on these issues. He was born in Marlborough and now lives in Devizes with his partner.
Devizes and Roundway South: JEFF ODY trained as an economist, and has worked extensively in transport planning in the UK and overseas. As a Kennet councillor since 2003, he is particularly concerned about new housing developments, traffic congestion and parking in our Town. Jeff lives in Pans Lane with his wife Gill, and they have two grown up daughters. He is Chairman of the Trust for Devizes, and enjoys local activities and motoring history.
